Due to the COVID-19 crisis from 26/3/20 we will be running a closed door telephone triage service. If you have any ocular problems, please contact us on any of the practice phone numbers during our usual business hours or email [email protected].
On Monday 29th June all four practices reopened. We are now able to provide all services. However, we are having to limit numbers in the practices due to social distancing requirements, appointments are longer and all staff are wearing PPE. These are all precautionary measures to keep you safe while returning to some normality.
Please contact your local practice to make an appointment for a sight test, contact lens check, adjustment or to pop in and purchase new spectacles or contact lenses.
Following many months of discussion and a lengthy procurement process, Julian Davies Opticians in St Mellons have been selected to be a Glaucoma follow-up ODTC by the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This means that a number of patients with Glaucoma or Ocular Hypertension will be monitored at our St Mellons practice using advanced diagnostic techniques and reviewed by consultant ophthalmologists remotely. This service will mean shorter waiting times, care closer to home, no more long waits in hospital waiting rooms and fewer people suffering glaucomatous sight loss.
On the 31st December 2019 Julian Davies Opticians completed the purchase of Stewart Greenberg Opticians in Llandaff. This expansion is great news for the people of Llandaff who will have the great service that they’ve had from Stewart Greenberg Opticians for the last 30 years enhanced by the clinical focus and excellence of Julian Davies Opticians who plan on investing in state of the art diagnostic equipment and giving the practice an overall refresh.
We have recently invested in an OCT (Optical Coherence Tomographer) in out St Mellons practice which means that we can offer hospital level technology as part of your routine eye examination.
OCT is a non-invasive, painless and fast imaging test. OCT uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. With OCT, your optometrist or ophthalmologist can see each of the retina’s distinctive layers and changes to them.
Having an OCT means that we can diagnose diseases like macular degeneration and glaucoma much sooner and more accurately than we otherwise could and having an OCT while your eyes are healthy gives us a baseline to compare to if ever there were a problem.
To book your OCT scan please contact the St Mellons practice and book in.

ATTENTION ALL PATIENTS:
We will be closing our ground floor for a complete refit of the practice from 22nd April- 8th May. There will be no eye examinations available but there will still be staff on our first floor to answer your calls, dispense spectacles and contact lenses and give any guidance/advice required.
Sorry for any inconvenience, the end result will be a much nicer place for you to visit for your eyecare.
Due to retirement of the Optometrist owner of Page Hughes Opticians Peter Griffiths on Newport Road in Rumney the practice has now closed. As a result of this we have taken the decision to acquire all of the patient records from Page Hughes opticians so that we can continue the acre of those patients who now have to seek their eye care elsewhere with the very valuable resource of knowing all of their eye history. This is of huge help to our optometrists who can then better advise on any changes which may not be obvious on first inspection without the help of previous records to refer back to.
All patients of Page Hughes Opticians who have been seen by their optometrists in the last 3 years will receive a letter in the post from us in the next month advising them of the transfer of their record as well as the date that their next examination is due. Those who haven’t been seen in recent years are advised to contact us on 029 20363377 to make an appointment or for details on when they are due.
